It looks like John Johnson III is finally off of the free agency market.
According to Jake Ellenbogen of Bleav In Rams, the former Cleveland Browns safety is signing back with his former team. Johnson spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Rams organization.
Johnson was a prized signing for the Browns in the offseason prior to the 2021 season but it just never worked out. He started 32 games over the last two seasons with Cleveland. Johnson totaled four interceptions and three forced fumbles but was often found out of position.
When coming to Cleveland, Johnson was asked to play in an uncomfortable spot for him in Joe Woods’ defense.
If he can return to the good player he was with the Rams, he will be back amongst the better strong safeties in the NFL. He simply struggled as a strong safety with the Browns. Partial blame can go on the Browns, as well as on Johnson for not being able to adapt.
With training camp started it took quite some time for Johnson to land his next NFL contract. The wait has come to an end as he will sign with the Rams after visiting back with the team recently.
