The Detroit Lions have had a lot of visitors during this weeks joint practices with the New York Giants. From team legends like Barry Sanders to NFL superstars like Marshawn Lynch and a ton of national media members. On Wednesday they got another big visit. This time from Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Whitmer was there to take in the Lions practice and even briefly spoke with the media about her love of the Lions and why she thinks this is going to be a big year for the team.
"While everything feels so divisive in this moment, the state of Michigan is united and excited about the Lions this year." Whitmer said. "I think you can just feel the momentum. You saw the hard work payoff, they get a great team. They've been really strategic in terms of building the team and the roster. I just think it's gonna be a great year and you can feel the enthusiasm as I get across the state this year. We usually have our handful of Packers fans in the northern part of the upper peninsula, but everyone's going with the Lions this year."
Whitmer was also asked about her thoughts on the Lions possibly hosting a playoff game for the first time at Ford Field.
"Oh my god I thing it would be spectacular for the city of Detroit and for football fans everywhere to see the kind of caliber of event space we got in the city of Detroit and the talent in Detroit."
She also said she would help the Lions host their Super Bowl parade wherever they wanted to hold it. Here's hoping that happens for Lions fans very soon.
