Texans player would make top QB prospect feel right at home
The Texans have a couple of players with ties to a top QB prospect.
The Texans are expected to be one of the teams gunning for a franchise quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft.
If the Bears keep the first pick, it is widely believed that they will not choose a QB. This would mean that the Texans have their choice of which QB they prefer with the second pick.
Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, CJ Stroud, and Will Levis are all in the running to be the first QB selected. However, Young may have some strong advocates in the Texans' locker room.
For starters, new Texans HC Demeco Ryans is an Alabama alum. Additionally, the Texans currently roster John Metchie III and Christian Harris, two of Young's teammates in Tuscaloosa. When recently asked about the prospect of reuniting with his friends, Young said he would welcome the opportunity.
"I love Christian Harris and John Metchie,"said Young. "For me, where I end up is something I can’t control. I’m going to give my all to whatever team it is that takes me. I’m just super excited to be here."
Young and Metchie played one season together for the Tide. In that season, 2021, Metchie collected 96 catches for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns. For his performance, Metchie received Second-team All-SEC honors.
Metchie looks forward to returning to football after receiving a devastating diagnosis of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia last summer. That news came after Metchie finally recovered from an ACL injury in his last collegiate game.
The Texans hope the speedy receiver can help improve an offense that ranked 25th in passing yards per game in 2022.
Harris was also selected out of Alabama in 2022, being picked 75th overall. The linebacker had an impressive rookie season, collecting 74 tackles in just 12 games.
If Young is indeed selected by the Texans, he will have high expectations from the beginning. The Texans are coming off of a 3-13-1 record, and boasted the 31st-ranked total offense.
