Saints make a surprising decision at the beginning of free agency
The Saints did something you wouldn’t expect.
In New Orleans, the Saints are quite busy. They signed two defensive linemen so far today. They've agreed to contracts with Derek Carr, Juwan Johnson, among others in the past week. With additions, subtractions also come in the NFL.
The Saints have chosen to not provide qualifying offers to six notable players. Those players are Marquez Callaway, Andrew Dowell, Blake Gillian, Chase Hansen, Albert Huggins, and Malcolm Roach.
Gillian may be the most surprising of that bunch. The Saints punter has become a fan favorite over the past two seasons.
Last year, he saw some inconsistencies at times, but his first season with the Saints was phenomenal. He was a top five punter in the NFL in his first season wit the Saints. He's proven his talent, and he loves New Orleans.
Now, it's not unlikely for him to return to the organization.
The Saints could still bring him back during free agency, but he will garner interest from plenty of teams.
