Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields landed at the top of an impressive list this week.
Fields, the No. 11 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, is looking to prove that he's capable of being a franchise quarterback for the Bears in 2023.
The former Ohio State standout showed how electric he could be at times last season, specifically in the Bears' 35-32 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 9. Fields did all he could to help Chicago win that game, passing for three touchdowns and rushing for 178 yards and another touchdown.
Fields didn't have a lot of help in the passing game last season so he had to rely on his legs more than he probably wanted to at times.
The Georgia native rushed for 1,143 yards in 15 games, coming up just 64 yards shy of breaking Lamar Jackson's record for rushing yards by a quarterback.
Fields was the most explosive runner in the league last season according to Next Gen Stats. The Chicago quarterback had an "explosive score" of 98. The No. 2 runner on the list, Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III, had an explosive score of 90. Fields also had 89 runs where he reached at least 15 MPH (most in the NFL).
From NFL.com: What Fields did in 2022 was a matter of making the most out of a less-than-ideal situation. The Bears lacked weapons offensively and struggled because of it, but Fields often kept them afloat otherwise. His ability to create positive gains with his legs only makes him more dangerous, and unless Chicago confines him to the pocket indefinitely, it's safe to expect he'll end up on this list again a year from now.
Now that Fields has some more offensive help (adding wide receiver DJ Moore and drafting offensive tackle Darnell Wright were big moves by Chicago's front office), he should be able to take his game to the next level in 2023. And that should result in more wins for the Bears.
