DeAndre Hopkins officially became an NFL free agent earlier this week. the three-time All-Pro will sign with a new team soon. Someone will get a massive upgrade at WR heading into next season. Expect it to be a one or two-year deal for Hopkins, who is over 30 years old at this point. That being said, his skillset will transition to any offense, and he can still make a major impact.
The New York Giants could use a clear-cut top weapon at WR. The Giants were not listed as a top fit for 'DHop' when discussed by one major NFL analyst, though.
Turning 31 years old in June, Hopkins is coming off a suspension-abbreviated season in which he caught 64 passes for 717 yards and three touchdowns in just nine games. A first-round pick of the Houston Texans in the 2013 NFL Draft, Hopkins has enjoyed a highly decorated decade in the NFL, making five Pro Bowls and earning first-team All-Pro honors three times. — Nick Shook
Shook mentioned seven teams as top fits for Hopkins. The Bills, Chiefs, Lions, Ravens, Panthers, Texans, and Cowboys were the teams discussed by the NFL.com analyst.
For the Giants, they could use Hopkins to bolster the top of their WR depth chart. Darren Waller is a major add at tight end, but the WR group is a bit unproven. They are hopeful that Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton can stay healthy. Parris Campbell and Jalin Hyatt will get snaps, too.
Adding Hopkins gives Daniel Jones a top wideout to stretch the field with. The offense would be taken to the next level if they could figure out a way to sign the veteran.
