The Chicago Bears took a major step in creating a championship product in the 2023 offseason. While the Bears might be a few seasons away from contending for a Super Bowl, one NBA Finals bound player is offering some championship-level advice to Justin Fields.
Max Strus has been a key role player for the Miami Heat as the they’ve navigated their way through the Eastern Conference playoffs into an NBA Finals showdown with the Denver Nuggets. Strus, who grew up in Hickory Hills, Illinois, is also a massive Bears fan.
Chicago Bulls fans are familiar with Strus' work. He is responsible for eliminating the Bulls from the NBA's Play-In Tournament with a game-high 31 points and seven made three-pointers. He also played two games for the organization in his rookie season.
Strus recently made an appearance on NBC Sports Chicago’s Football Night in Chicago. When asked about the current state of the Bears, Strus was impressed by the team’s offseason moves.
“I know we went out and got some guys off the free agent market. Got a good draft pick in (Darnell Wright) and you know, it feels like we're taking the right steps to build around a winning program and I couldn't be more excited for that,” Strus said.
When it comes to Fields, everyone in Chicago seems to have an opinion on whether or not he can be the guy to lead the Bears back to the promised land. But Strus is one of the fans in his corner.
“He's special in what he does. He's a special talent and they don’t make a lot of quarterbacks like him. So continue to be yourself and believe in it and lead the team. I mean, everybody in the city loves him. And we all believe in him. So he's got our full support.”
For Strus to take time away from an incredible postseason run with the Heat to talk about Fields and the Bears proves how much he cares about the team he grew up supporting. Perhaps Fields heeds the advice from Strus. After all, he does know what it takes to play for a championship.
