The Las Vegas Raiders second best defensive player is getting some major disrespect from one NFL analyst.
The Raiders' defense isn't great, actually, it's one of the worst in the league, and a major reason why is because of their secondary. But, Nate Hobbs isn't a reason it's bad. In fact, if he wasn't on this team, they would by far have the worst secondary and it wouldn't be close.
That's why the recent disrespect he is getting is crazy to me. Last year he had a run where he was really good, and I guess getting hurt may have made people forget about what he was doing. So much so, one NFL analyst had Hobbs as barely making the top 32 list of cornerbacks.
No. 28 NATE HOBBS, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS
Hobbs suffered a major drop in play in 2022 and may be a cornerback trapped in the wrong scheme and position as things currently stand, but we saw from his rookie season how good he can be covering the slot in the right system. That year, he recorded an 80.1 PFF grade and allowed just one touchdown all season. It may be difficult for Hobbs to bounce back, given his current role, but he belongs on the list despite those circumstances. – Sam Monson, PFF
Listed at 28 is crazy, especially when you look at some of the guys ahead of him on this list. Hobbs was drawing comparisons to Patrick Surtain last season at some point. Yet, this NFL analyst has rookie Trent McDuffie, Greg Newsome, and even Mike Hilton in front of Hobbs.
I think Hobbs deserves to be in the 15-20 range. Hobbs is a guy that can play all over the field and takes on the opposing team's best receiver every game because they have no one else to. He takes on such a huge workload every game, yet, he gets disrespected. Hobbs is definitely better than 28, and he may show that in 2023.
