Another day, another DeAndre Hopkins update.
While the majority of the world was focused on Brandon Beane's ability to make another splash signing in Leonard Floyd, the talented Bills GM also made some noise regarding Hopkins.
During a segment on The Pat McAfee show, Brandon Beane opened up on a variety of topics for the upcoming season. The Bills Mafia were listening to every word when Hopkins was mentioned, and Beane didn't disappoint
Beane, normally tight-lipped and reserved, had similar sentiment regarding Hopkins as another high-end reciever. Just a few months ago, Beane discussed kicking the tires for OBJ before he had signed with Baltimore, his comments on Hopkins felt more of the same.
When asked if the team would be kicking the tires on Hopkins, despite him potentially demanding more money, Beane was direct. "We're all about people who want to come to Buffalo." Beane continued, "Never ruling it out. Know he's a good player and he'll probably demand a decent contract"
It's what Beane said next, half-jokingly, that really had the ears of the Bills Mafia perked up. McAfee asked "You guys are negotiating right now? What's the number at?" Beane had a classic response, giving everything and nothing at the same time, "That's as far as I'm going."
Hopkins has been tied to Buffalo since the first rumor of his departure from the Arizona Cardinals. The All-Pro receiver took it upon himself to cause a social media firestorm by simply mentioning "Buffalo" in an Instagram post.
Since then, Hopkins has outright admitted he wanted to play with Josh Allen, smiled at the prospect of joining the organization, and has had more than one former teammate on the Bills attempting to publicly recruit him.
Buffalo, after signing Floyd, is facing an uphill battle in terms of cap space if they were to try and sign Hopkins. The talented receiver could very well be paid handsomely for his services. However, if he was willing to take a discount and really wants to chase a ring with Josh Allen as his quarterback, Beane will most definitely be listening.
Restructures, re-signings, and extensions would allow the team some more wiggle room. For now, the Bills Mafia will just have to wait and see what Hopkins wants to do next.
If Brandon Beane has taught the organization and fanbase one thing since his arrival, he's going to smartly swing for the fences. While things may look gloomy now in the Hopkins to Buffalo sweepstakes, that could change overnight.
