The Bears have more Hall of Famers than any other team in the league, with 30 inductees. The team could soon be adding another Hall of Famer to its ranks, albeit not a player.
Staley Da Bear, one of the more recognizable mascots in the league, has been nominated for the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2023.
Staley will be joined by fellow NFL mascots Blitz (Seattle Seahawks), Freddie Falcon (Atlanta), Jaxson de Ville (Jaguars), Miles (Denver Broncos) and Toro (Houston Texans).
There are 18 total mascots that have been nominated for the class of 2023. Voting for the honor begins on May 14.
If Staley is selected, he would become the fourth Chicago mascot to earn the honor. Tommy Hawk (Blackhawks), Southpaw (White Sox), and Benny The Bull are the other Chicagoland mascots in the Hall. Chicago already has more mascots in the Mascot Hall of Fame than any other city, and Staley could be the latest addition.
Staley debuted as the Bears' mascot in the 2003 season. The mascot's name honors A.E. Staley, who founded the Chicago Bears in 1919. Staley is a three-time Pro Bowl mascot, and is often seen around Chicago at parades and events.
K.C. Wolf (Chiefs) and Blue (Colts) are the only NFL mascots currently in the Hall.
