The NFL Schedule Release for the 2023 season will take place on Thursday night. One of the teams whose top matchups will receive the most hype, the Dallas Cowboys, now knows when they play one of their biggest games of the season.
According to the league's Twitter account, the Cowboys will travel to Levi's Stadium in Week 5 to take on the San Francisco 49ers in prime time on Sunday Night Football.
The Cowboys and 49ers are no strangers to each other. They have played each other 39 times and are currently at a standstill with a 19-19-1 series record. In the postseason, they've met nine times with the Cowboys holding a 5-4 advantage.
It's been a struggle for the Cowboys against the 49ers in the postseason recently. Dallas has put together consecutive 12-win campaigns, but they've had their Super Bowl hopes end in the playoffs by the 49ers each time and they've done so on the road and at home.
Dallas has other big road games against the NFC East, the Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins as well in 2023. However, the matchup with the 49ers is as big as any of the others, especially from a historical standpoint.
The Cowboys are hoping that the additions of five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore and wide receiver Brandin Cooks can stop the current two-game win streak the 49ers have going in this rivalry.
