The Chicago Bears are hoping the 2023 season is the start of their ascent under general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus.
Chicago had a trying season in 2022 — which was expected — as the franchise went through a mini-rebuild in Poles' first season at the helm.
The Bears were fortunate to already have a potential franchise quarterback in place in Justin Fields, so their rebuild is a bit accelerated compared to the franchises that are in rebuild mode with no obvious answer at quarterback.
It doesn't seem that there are many NFL analysts predicting the Bears to win the NFC North in 2023, but there are plenty of analysts who feel like Chicago is going to be a much-improved team this fall.
In fact, ESPN thinks the Bears will go over their projected win total of 7.5.
From ESPN: This is my favorite team to bet in the division. I am very bullish on the Bears in 2023 and beyond. It starts with QB Justin Fields, who I think is a certified star in the making. GM Ryan Poles has done a very good job fortifying the talent around him on offense, so I think he takes a big leap this season in his development. The defense is still a work in progress, so I'm expecting this team to be involved in a lot of entertaining shootouts. Bottom line: I am betting big on Fields and the Bears taking a significant leap.
That's certainly encouraging to hear if you're a Bears fan.
While it ultimately doesn't matter how analysts feel about the Bears, it's a good sign that most folks seem to approve of the direction of the franchise under Poles. Clearly, the moves he's made are viewed favorably by the national media.
We'll see how it plays out on the field, but on paper, at least, it appears that the Bears are poised to take a big step forward in 2023.
