The New York Giants made another major move official today. They announced the signing of rookie cornerback Deonte Banks to his rookie deal. The Giants selected Banks with the 24th overall pick after trading up one spot in the first round.
Their need for a new cornerback was clear, and they went up to get their guy. New York has now signed six of their seven rookies so far in the 2023 draft class.
"Tae" Banks played in 30 games with 21 starts in four seasons at Maryland. His career totals included 83 tackles (61 solo), two interceptions, 13 passes defensed and one blocked kick. As a senior in 2022, he played in a career-high 12 games with eight starts. He was selected honorable mention All-Big Ten after compiling a career-best 38 tackles (25 solo) and nine passes defensed, plus one interception and a half-sack… Banks is a Baltimore native who closely followed the Ravens when Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale held the same position with that franchise. Martindale's defense frequently challenges opposing wide receivers with aggressive press man coverage.
The contract details for Banks' deal have not been released yet.
Expect him to slot in as a starting CB for the Giants to begin this season.
