The Chicago Bears drafted 10 players during the 2023 NFL Draft. It is hoped that several of these players become pivotal pieces of the next great Bears' team.
Well, two of the players selected are already making good progress. Gervon Dexter Sr. and Zacch Pickens are two defensive tackles who were selected consecutively by the Bears.
It appears the fellow rookies are working on building something special in Chicago.
Pickens recently appeared on Bears Weekly on ESPN 1000 in Chicago. During the interview, Pickens mentioned the friendship that is developing between himself and Dexter.
Pickens mentioned that the two are hoping to "turn a lot of heads," in 2023.
The Bears could certainly use a couple difference-makers on the interior. The team struggled mightily in the tre4nches last year, with a porous offensive line and a defensive line that was gashed against the run and got zero pressure.
The team made notable improvements on the offensive line by adding Darnell Wright and Nate Davis. On the defensive line, solid veteran Andrew Billings was added alongside Pickens and Dexter.
Currently, Justin Jones and Andrew Billings are listed as the starting defensive tackles. With strong showings this summer, however, one or both of the rookies could force his way into the starting lineup.
Dexter was a dominant force as a Florida Gator, collecting 55 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks in 2022. The massive tackle could immediately improve the Bears' porous run defense.
Pickens was a solid run stuffer in his own right, collecting 42 tackles, four tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks for South Carolina in 2022.
In addition to the two massive rookies, the Bears' run defense should be further boosted by the additions of linebackers TJ Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds.
Do you expect the Bears' run defense to improve in 2023?
