The Tennessee Vols could be on the verge of adding an elite player to their 2024 recruiting class.
Tennessee currently has the No. 10 ranked 2024 recruiting class in the nation, but that ranking will climb a bit if a recent prediction from On3's Sam Spiegelman turns out to be correct.
On Friday afternoon, Spiegelman predicted that the Vols will land 2024 five-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin.
Franklin, 6-foot-5/265 lbs from Lake Cormorant, MS, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 6 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Mississippi. He's also rated as the No. 29 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.
Franklin recently told On3 that he's not sure when he'll announce his commitment, so this battle will likely continue for a while. Miami and Ole Miss are also very much in the mix.
The talented five-star recruit will take an official visit to Tennessee on June 16, but it won't be the first time he's been to Knoxville. Franklin mentioned to On3 earlier this month that he's visited UT four or five times already.
“Coach Garner, Coach Chop, and Coach Heupel all recruit me hard at Tennessee and they have multiple coaches who recruit me almost every day,” said Franklin to On3. “I’ve visited Tennessee four or five times and it’s great up there. Like Miami, the people at Tennessee are great and my relationships there are strong."
“They had a great season last year and that showed me a lot, too," added Franklin. "Coach Heupel has them going in the right direction and Tennessee always lets me know that I’m not just a want, but a need. They want to build that defensive line around me.”
Vols head coach Josh Heupel made it clear recently that Tennessee is going to be an elite defensive team under his watch. Adding a player like Franklin would certainly help that become a reality for Heupel and the Vols.
