The Chicago Bears are one of the NFL's first charter teams, starting out as the Decatur Staleys in 1920.
And, they've never had a quarterback throw for 4,000 yards in a single season, since.
Well, start quarterback Justin Fields plans on snapping the drought that's lasted more than a century, in 2023.
"I will. And I plan on doing it this year, too." Fields recently said, via CBS Sports.
Not only did Fields say he was going to do it in 2023 – he doubled down on it.
Honestly, he has a great shot to do what no Bears quarterback has ever done. Ryan Poles did a great job of remaking the offensive line, as well as bringing in weapons like veteran wideout D.J. Moore and rookie WR Tyler Scott to help boost Fields' game.
There's also the fact that the Bears have the sixth-easiest schedule based off Vegas win totals, per Sharp Football Analysis. In all, things are certainly set up to where Fields can keep true to his word.
Erik Kramer has held the Bears' single season passing record of 3,838 yards since 1995. Jay Cutler is the most recent Bears QB to get close to 4,000 passing yards after he threw for 3,812 yards in 2014.
There's plenty of excitement surrounding this team heading into 2023 and for good reason. And, things will only get better -in both the short- and long-term- if Fields can continue the progress we saw him make last year.
