From a money standpoint, the Bills will not cut the All-Pro receiver and it makes no sense for the team to trade him away. Just last season, Buffalo extended him making him one of the highest-paid receivers in football.
Regardless, Diggs has decided to sit out of mandatory camp and it could cost him greatly, even if it's only for one day.
The All-Pro reciever went viral with his decision to not attend camp. What started everything was the press conference in which Sean McDermott announced that one of the best players on the roster wasn't in attendance and that he was "very concerned."
Since then, Diggs has posted a cryptic message on his Instagram while Von Miller and Josh Allen have come out in support of Diggs and his decision. Unfortunately, we are no closer to an answer on what's going on at One Bills Drive.
However, with this being a mandatory camp, Diggs not attending could have some financial implications. While maybe just peanuts to someone making over $20M a season, Diggs's decision to sit out is going to cost him a huge chunk of change.
Now, Buffalo could waive the fees associated with missing camp and everything could be water under the bridge. However, neither side has made clear that's the case.
How much money will Stefon Diggs lose from sitting out of mandatory camp?
The NFL doesn't mess around when it comes to fines. Per Ian Rapoport, missing one mandatory workout/minicamp is $16,459. When a player goes on to miss a second or third practice, that amount shoots up to $32,920 and then $49,374, respectively. For missing 3 days of camp the total fines near $100k.
If Stefon Diggs continues to hold out and not show up to camp, he's going to be only hurting himself. Here's hoping that whatever discomfort is going on between the Bills' superstar receiver and the front office can get sorted out, quickly.
