The Chicago Bears received a tremendous effort from a key defender in 2022.
Even though Eddie Jackson only played in 12 games, he still ended just two tackles shy of a career-high. Jackson returned to his ball-hawking ways in 2022 until an unfortunate Lisfranc injury would sideline the veteran safety for the final five games of the season.
However, Jackson is making it apparent that no shortcuts have been taken in his recovery.
While speaking with Chicago media, Jackson explained that he didn't take a vacation this offseason and instead has been at Halas Hall nearly every day.
Jackson also mentioned that he, linebacker Jack Sanborn, and wide receiver Darnell Mooney have gotten close by being in the gym together every day.
It seems that Jackson's hard work paid off, as his goal was to return by minicamp. This goal became more realistic after Jackson found out he would not need surgery.
Last week, head coach Matt Eberflus shouted out the veteran for his efforts.
"Eddie has worked his tail off to get back to where he is," head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters. "He’s in really good shape from working with the rehab staff and I want to commend those guys, the training staff, for getting him back and commend Eddie also for the hard work that he’s put in to get to this point."
The Bears and Jackson are hoping to see more of what they saw in 2022 from the safety. Jackson finished the 2022 season with 80 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
