The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks sent the NFL a message on Tuesday during mandatory minicamps. The message was about just how good their offense could be in the 2023 season.

All of the attention this offseason has been on the two quarterbacks the Buccaneers are making battle for the starting spot. Baker Mayfield, a former number-one pick, seems to have the job now, but that doesn't mean Kyle Trask couldn't take it.

No matter who is under behind the center, the Buccaneers feel their offense can be very good in 2023, especially with the new system offensive coordinator Dave Canales has installed.

"'You know, I think we obviously have a lot of potential to be explosive, but it's just going to have to be about taking care of the ball," Mayfield told the media on Tuesday. "I think we're going to be able to get in different personnel and get in similar formations and run very different stuff out of those things.

"And so to me, it's about just staying ahead of the chains and taking care of the ball and good things will happen. I think everybody here will see the difference in the run game that we'll be able to do and that truly is going to establish what this offense is about. And I'm excited about that and I know the guys up front as well."

Coming into this season, there aren't a ton of high expectations for the offense to be elite. So, to hear Mayfield say they have the potential to be explosive should perk some fans' ears up. The offense struggled at times last year and often became stagnant.

Sometimes the defense knew the Buccaneers were going into a pass play. Sometimes Tampa Bay had no run presence at all. They struggled a lot because they were one of the worst rushing teams in the league, or, if you look at total rushing yards per team, they were dead last.

They also had the worst yards per carry at 3.4 and the fewest rushing touchdowns with just five. This offense will make that part of their game better. The opposing defense will only sometimes know what the offense will do.

"I would say it's unpredictable," Kyle Trask said shortly after Mayfield. "You, you don't know what you're going to get. We could come at you in a million different ways and then throw it over the top of your head. You just never know you saw the success they had in Seattle with that philosophy. And I think we add our weapons into that. We could be very dangerous. So I'm really excited to see how it plays out."

Hearing that the offense will be unpredictable has to be music to everyone's ears. I'm sure starting running back Rachaad White feels much better too.
