The Texans are entering a new era with a new man at the helm.
After coaching for six seasons in San Francisco, DeMeco Ryans was awarded the head coaching job in Houston. The move was a homecoming for Ryans who starred for the Texans from 2006-2011.
The hiring of Ryans was met with praise from many, including one of the 49ers' star players.
Trent Williams has been one of the premier left tackles in the league for over a decade now. The tackle and Ryans were together in San Francisco from 2020-2022, and Williams was left with a lasting impression. Williams recently spoke with KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson about the hiring of Ryans.
“Yeah, I think they got a steal ,” Williams said. “He can be a staple for this organization for a long time. He’s a very talented coach. Obviously, has pedigree, played this game for a long time, played it the right way and he coaches it the right way. I think he’s going to have a lot of success out here.”
Williams also had a glowing review for Bobby Slowik, who followed Ryans to Houston from San Francisco. The star left tackle called Slowik "a brilliant mind," who will do an "excellent job" in Houston.
It speaks to Ryans' personality that he had such an impact on a player on the opposite side of the ball.
It certaintly bodes well that Ryans seems to be loved by players. Texans' star Laremy Tunsil has also spoken on how the vibes in Houston are already different now.
While nice to see these comments, the real measuring stick will be if the Texans can improve on their 3-13-1 record from a year ago.
