One Broncos starter was afraid of getting screwed by the team this offseason, something that has happened to him before.
Alex Singleton is now on a good contract with the Denver Broncos as their starting linebacker and their best linebacker. He was one of the more underrated at his position all season long. So, to many, it was no surprise the Broncos ownership and front office wanted to bring him back.
They did so, signing him to a one-year, $1,115,000 contract. But that process was as stressful as it gets for Singleton.
"I didn't really know," Singleton told the media last Tuesday, referring to knowing whether or not the Broncos would offer him a deal.
"Until there were numbers talks and a contract put out there, it was a waiting game. But once they sent over the first contract, it was, 'Alright, we're staying in Denver. Cool. Let's just finish it up.' And they did it pretty quickly on the first day. I was stressed because, like I said, it took eight years, so I'm used to getting screwed, kind of. So it was nice to not to have that happen."
Singleton deserves every penny of what he is getting, and probably more. The Broncos got him for a steal, honestly. Of all linebackers who played at least 244 coverage snaps, Singleton had the 18th-best coverage grade, according to PFF, with a 73.
Could Singleton be better? For sure. But he did what he was supposed to in that defense last year. In Vance Joseph's defense, he can be even better, especially by factoring in a healthy Josey Jewell and Jonas Griffith next to him.
Broncos fans love Singleton, and I know most are happy with the steal of a deal he signed to return back to Denver.
Alex Singleton couldn’t believe what the Broncos offered him
Most people probably would have reacted the same way if thee Broncos did that to them.
