It's been more than two decades since the Dallas Cowboys have competed for Super Bowls. While the Cowboys have largely been in the postseason during that stretch, the team has failed to reach that next level.
In the Dak Prescott era alone, the Cowboys have multiple double-digit win seasons, playoff wins, and even a No. 1 seed in the NFC. But again, Dallas has lacked the ability to take the step forward.
Fortunately, Prescott is aware of the situation and believes that the Cowboys aren't that far off from getting back to the stage that everybody wants to play on. He sees the Cowboys building to something big.
“You’re able to take two 12-win seasons over into this one and build. It’s the first time in my career I can say I feel like consecutive seasons are building," Prescott said. "Going back to 2021, we’ve been able to build. We built that year and we can build again.
Prescott has quarterbacked some very competitive Cowboys teams, including one last year that knocked off Tom Brady in the playoffs. But he thinks that continued success will eventually lead to even more in the postseason.
"I think that’s the best real chance that you have of making it. You got to give it knocks. You’ve got to see what it feels like," Prescott explained. "Us having that now, you feel a lot more comfortable, you’re excited about the details, the changes that we’ve had on the offense and just the team. I’m looking forward to it with a lot of excitement.”
Dallas made some necessary roster upgrades in trading for wide receiver Brandin Cooks and cornerback Stephon Gilmore. That, combined with what Prescott explained, adds a different layer to the Cowboys for the upcoming NFL season.
