The Denver Broncos had a terrible season in 2022, including the quarterback, but one analyst has Russell Wilson having a better season in 2023.
First, it is easy to have a better season than he did last year. The Broncos had the worst offense in the league in 2022. Russell Wilson had one of the worst seasons by a quarterback last year, if not the worst. All he would have to do is be competent or have an okay season. He could have his second-worst season ever, and it would be better.
However, what one NFL analyst has Wilson doing in 2023 is remarkable, considering the season he just had.
Wilson's first season with the Broncos can safely be filed under worst-case scenario. The veteran QB missed two games due to injury and managed only 19 TDs in 15 games while taking a league-high 55 sacks. Wilson averaged a career-low 15.1 fantasy PPG and had one weekly outing better than 14th before a strong finish (three top-five weeks in his final four games). Wilson hasn't been a reliable fantasy starter the past two seasons, but there is some reason for optimism here with Sean Payton now running the Denver offense. The Broncos also upgraded their offensive line and have a good group of targets led by Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton. The 34-year-old Wilson is a fine mid-to-late-round flier. – Mike Clay, ESPN
Mike Clay has Wilson getting 3,875 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 63.2% completion percentage, 322 rushing yards, and three rushing touchdowns. Last year he had worse numbers than that in every category besides interceptions and rushing touchdowns, which were the same.
The Broncos will need a much better season out of Wilson than he had in 2022 if they want to at least start getting the franchise where it needs to be. No one expects him to put up MVP-like numbers, but we certainly don't expect him to be that bad again.
Broncos fans are hoping last year was an anomaly. This year will prove that theory right or wrong. Getting stats like the ones Clay has him getting will help them get toward that end goal.
Russell Wilson joins John Elway on historic list
The season for Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson hasn't been an easy one. He's struggled, and injuries haven't helped their situation on offense. Wilson has shown more impressive flashes over the last few weeks, though. He played fairly well against the Chiefs in Week 17, albeit a close loss. Wilson threw for 222 yards, one […]
