The Chicago Bears are reuniting with a familiar face in the team’s quarterback room.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the team has signed veteran backup quarterback Nathan Peterman to a one-year deal.

Peterman, who has seven seasons NFL experience, spent the 2022 season bouncing back and forth from the Bears’ practice squad to its active roster. It wasn’t until a Christmas Eve showdown against the Buffalo Bills in Week 14 that Peterman saw his first action with Chicago.

Peterman completed a couple of passes in relief of starter Justin Fields, but ultimately finished his outing with an interception to wrap up the Bears’ 35-13 loss.

While primarily serving as the Bears’ third-string quarterback behind Fields and backup Trevor Siemian, Peterman did start the team’s season finale against the Minnesota Vikings. Both Fields and Peterman were out with lower-body injuries, so Peterman completed 11-of-19 passing for 114 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort.

Peterman brings experience and familiarity with offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s system. He joins Fields and newly signed backup QB P.J. Walker on the team’s current roster.
