The New York Giants are still weighing their options for the first round of this year's NFL Draft. With just a week left before it begins, teams are certainly zeroing in on their biggest targets. New York could go a lot of ways at pick 25.
In his latest mock draft, Maurice Jones-Drew gave the Giants Minnesota center John Michael Schmitz. It's a bit of a different election for New York. They normally attack cornerback or wide receiver, but MJD chose a different route for them.
Coined "JMS", he is arguably the most NFL-ready interior offensive lineman in this class. He was the cornerstone of the OL for the Gophers. For the Giants, he would step in to be a starter immediately in front of Daniel Jones and co.
The most important thing in this league is protecting the quarterback. Schmitz is a dominant interior blocker who'll help keep Daniel Jones upright and pave the way for Saquon Barkley in the run game. — MJD
Schmitz would be an impactful add for NYG. Fans may want WR or CB, but the board could fall in a way that pushes them in a different direction. Jordan Addison and Zay Flowers were both taken by the Giants' pick. The top three cornerbacks were gone as well.
This draft sounds like it will be quite unpredictable, so this scenario is certainly a possibility. Keep an eye on Michael Schmitz for the Giants next week.
