Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy knows exactly what he has in Justin Fields.
With the 2023 NFL Draft just around the corner, the Bears are set to pick at No. 9 overall. What general manager Ryan Poles does with the pick remains to be seen, but one scenario can be completely crossed out.
ESPN’s Louis Riddick joined ESPN 1000’s Waddle and Silvy to share a discussion he had with the Getsy at Alabama’s Pro Day. The topic of conversation was the quarterback position.
“I talked to Luke Getsy down in Alabama for the Bryce Young’s Pro Day and I was like ‘Hey, you down here looking at these quarterbacks?” Riddick recalled asking Getsy. “You trying to find one?’ And he was like ‘Nope. We got our guy, we just need to help him out. Protect him and get him weapons. And we’re doing a pretty good job of it. We have a good start.’ I could not agree more so it’s not even a discussion in my book.”

Fields showed flashes as a passer in his first season as the full-time starter. His athleticism and mobility are truly one of a kind, but Chicago still needs to add to his supporting cast.
Adding WR D.J. Moore certainly makes Fields’ life easier, as does the free agent addition of RG Nate Davis. But the job isn’t finished. Chicago still needs a premier offensive tackle to anchor what was one of the shakiest lines in the league just a year ago.
To hear Getsy sound so confident in Fields is relieving to hear, especially from a third-party source. The duo’s first season together laid the groundwork for what the Bears offense can become with the right tools. Now it’s up to Poles to finalize one of the most pivotal offseasons in recent memory.
