The Chicago Bears are making a concerted effort to improve one of the team’s most glaring weaknesses from the 2022 season.
With the 53rd overall pick in the draft., Chicago selected Florida DT Gervon Dexter. At 6’6” 303lbs, Dexter is an absolute problem in the trenches. He has the ability to play the three-technique, which is critical in head coach Matt Eberflus’ defensive scheme.
Look at the big man go!
Chicago ranked 31st in the NFL against the run last season, allowing an average of 157 yards per game. Dexter’s size and athleticism serves as an immediate upgrade on the interior of the defensive line.
In 2022, Dexter compiled 55 tackles at Florida including four TFLs and two sacks. He joins an improved Bears defensive line which added free agent talents in DeMarcus Walker and Andrew Billings. Dexter gives the Bears much-needed depth in a key area which nicely compliments free agent LB Tremaine Edmunds on the second level.
