The Jacksonville Jaguars started off the 2023 NFL Draft with three consecutive picks to help their offense, contrary to what many would've expected given the team's defensive needs.
However, the team is confident in their selections as they're surrounding their best player, Trevor Lawrence, with a better-supporting cast. But there's one thing that didn't go their way during Day 2 of the Draft when the team tried to trade back into the third round.
With ten picks scheduled for Day 3, many thought the Jaguars were a prime candidate to trade up. Apparently, General Manager Trent Baalke shared that sentiment.
"That's why we're late coming in here," Baalke told reporters on Friday night's press conference. "We tried to get back into the third round again. It just didn't work."
He also confirmed the board presented a few opportunities that he and HC Doug Pederson discussed in the War Room. But ultimately, it's not just up to them to actually make a move and use their draft capital.
"It takes two, we talked about a few scenarios," explained the Jaguars GM. "You try, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't."
Barring any trades, the Jags are scheduled to make three fourth-round picks on Saturday. But based on their comments, it wouldn't be a surprise to see them move around. They already moved back a combined three times in Rounds 1 and 2 so today might be the day to make that count.
And if they don't get another NFL team to tango with?
"You gotta make them if you can't trade," said Baalke.
