Entering the 2023 NFL Draft, the Texans had one of the most talent-deprived rosters in the league. After this draft, I think it's safe to say that the team is on the definite upswing.
Rounding out the draft, the team selected a defensive back that many thought would be selected much sooner.
Brandon Hill, a safety out of Pittsburgh, was taken by the Texans with the No. 248 overall pick. Hill was a two-year starter for the Pitt Panthers, collecting 162 tackles and three interceptions over those two seasons.
Hill's slide can likely be attributed to a lack of turnover production and his slight stature. Hill is under 6'0" and under 200 pounds, both unusual measurements for starting-caliber safeties. This could lead to Hill playing a special teams role in the league.
There is a scenario where Hill carves out a niche as a quality backup safety. What more can you expect out of the seventh round?
