Everyone loved it when quarterback Joe Burrow said the Cincinnati Bengals' window for a Super Bowl would remain open throughout his entire career.
Joe Cool saying that was… well, the coolest possible moment for the Bengals.
But that was more than just bulletin board material. That was a true assessment of Cincinnati's championship prospects. And NFL analyst Bucky Brooks agrees with Burrow's comments.
In a recent article in which he listed the eight teams with the biggest Super Bowl windows, Brooks ranked the Bengals third in the entire NFL.
"These are not your father's Bungles. Cincy has won 20 of its past 26 games (including the playoffs) with Burrow at the helm, barely losing Super Bowl LVI and barely losing to the eventual Super Bowl LVII champions," Brooks writes over at NFL.com.
"If the Bengals can keep most of the core together after providing Burrow with a megadeal extension, this team will indeed compete with the champion Chiefs for AFC supremacy throughout No. 9's run as the team's QB1."
Those are very strong words, especially considering the Bengals play in the AFC; The conference features the best of the QB position today. It doesn't stop with Patrick Mahomes and Burrow.
Justin Herbert, Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence, Lamar Jackson, and more will make it hard every single year to compete for all the marbles. But the Bengals have a quarterback that could (and has most times) best all of them throughout the years.
It's impressive how Burrow has become the apparent consensus No. 2 at the QB position in the league. He's certainly earned it thanks to tremendous accuracy paired with the best pocket presence in the NFL.
Paired with Burrow's caliber of play is the fact that he has a very good coaching staff.
If the Bengals truly become a perennial contender like the Chiefs as Brooks suggests, it's going to be the best era of Cincinnati Bengals football. Hopefully, it translates into Super Bowl wins.
