The Buffalo Bills missed Von Miller badly after his injury in Week 12. While a downgrade was expected, I don't think anyone envisioned Miller's absence being so hurtful to the team.
The impact was felt not only in the Bills' lack of results rushing Joe Burrow in the Divisional Round but also in every single game played without him. In fact, since the star pass rusher went down, the Bills finished as a bottom 12 team in pressure rate.
While the Bills supposedly signed Miller to get to top tier quarterbacks in the playoffs and be the difference maker when a "13 seconds" scenario came about again. He was going to be the closer coming in at the bottom of the ninth.
But in reality, he was much more than that. Without Miller, there was no pass rush. That in itself raises a significant roster concern for Buffalo going into next season.
But for now, some good news.
Von Miller says he'll be ready for Bills training camp
The Bills might not have to wait for Miller deep into 2023. In fact, the star pass rusher told the media he'll be ready for camp.
“They say it’s nine months. Hopefully I can do it in like six or seven or something like that," Von Miller told reporters about his rehab earlier this week.
"Nine months will put me right at August, so right at the beginning of training camp, I should be ready to go.”
The Bills general manager, Brandon Beane, doesn't want to commit to Miller being ready for all of 2023. But he does believe the pass rusher is trending in the right direction.
“I think Von is in a good spot," Beane said earlier this week. "I’m going to say the same thing. I expect him for a good portion of 2023; I’m not ruling out (him playing) all of 2023 but I don't want to say that either."
"It's too early."
