The Miami Dolphins made waves across the NFL on Sunday, announcing that the team is hiring Vic Fangio as its defensive coordinator.
By doing so, Miami is also making Fangio, who is one of the NFL’s best defensive minds, the highest paid coordinator in the league, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. It’s reported that Fangio’s contract is a three-year deal with a fourth-year team option.
Fangio has 19 seasons of experience as defensive coordinator, making stops with Carolina, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco and Indianapolis. He spent three seasons as the Broncos’ head coach (2019-2021), compiling a 19-30 record.
Dolphins defensive end Bradley Chubb excelled under Fangio’s guidance when the pair worked together in Denver. Chubb’s lone Pro Bowl season came in 2020, as he finished with 7.5 sacks in 14 games.
Miami is looking to change the its defensive philosophy and Fangio is the perfect coach to revamp this talented Dolphins defense. It’s a huge get for head coach Mike McDaniel, proving that the franchise is willing to spend whatever it takes to put the right people in position to help convert the Dolphins into a perennial postseason threat.
