The Kansas City Chiefs are putting a bow on their preparations to secure a Super Bowl title versus the Philadelphia Eagles. They are focused on that.
That being said, one of their assistants has been in line for a potential promotion or move for multiple years now.
That's offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Bieniemy has received plenty of praise from Chiefs coaches and players for his work alongside Andy Reid.
Around the NFL, he is looked at as a bright offensive mind that could get another opportunity elsewhere to prove his play-calling prowess and role in a dynamic offense.
Bieniemy is certainly focused on helping his offense earn a Super Bowl for Kansas City, but after the big game, he is going to have some interest around the league for staff openings.
According to reports, he is a strong candidate for the offensive coordinator jobs with the Washington Commanders and Baltimore Ravens.
Bieniemy would receive solo play-calling duties in those scenarios most likely, which he doesn't currently have with the Chiefs.
That may play a fairly large role in his decision to move on from KC.
It isn't the Chiefs' fault that they have one of the best offensive minds of this generation at HC in Andy Reid. It does mean that coaches may have to move on at times simply because there's no replacing a coach of that experience.
Bieniemy most likely has aspirations of becoming an NFL head coach, so proving that he can run a successful offense without Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid could be the final piece to a puzzle.
Regardless, Bieniemy deserves an opportunity to continue his growth as a coach in the league. He's helped developed Mahomes into the best quarterback in the world.
The Chiefs have been one of the most efficient and consistent offense in the NFL with Bieniemy on staff.
