CBS Sports recently pointed out one free agent that each NFL team should target this offseason and their choice for the Cincinnati Bengals was…puzzling.

They went with Dallas Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz as the player that Cincinnati should target this offseason.

From CBS Sports:

Hayden Hurst is a free agent, and he certainly had his moments in 2022. However, Schultz would be an upgrade and add to this explosive Bengals offensive attack. The Cowboy didn't have as impressive of a season as he did in 2021, and it has me wondering what his value will be on the open market. Still, Schultz could be the most popular tight end this offseason.

I understand the Bengals are preparing for a couple of big extensions this offseason, including one for star quarterback Joe Burrow, and that throwing a few extra bucks on the tight end position isn't a necessity. Still, I found this too fun not to throw out there.

I just don't see any way the Bengals consider this.

Sure, it would be fun to see Schultz in Cincy's offense, but the Bengals almost certainly won't pursue him.

Re-signing Hayden Hurst makes a lot more sense. The Bengals have to clear room for Joe Burrow's upcoming extension. They also have Ja'Marr Chase's extension next offseason to worry about.

Cincinnati can't allocate money to a luxury signing like Schultz with those extensions looming. They have to be extremely smart this offseason while also addressing needs. Offensive tackle, for example, would be a better position to sink money into.

Schultz is simply going to command too much money to be considered by the Bengals.
