The Miami Dolphins improved in multiple areas in what was an up-and-down 2022 campaign. That being said, one individual’s growth stood out the most according to Pro Football Focus.
Pro Football Focus revealed a list naming every NFL team’s most improved player in 2022. For the Miami Dolphins that player was defensive end Jaelan Phillips.
In his second year with the Dolphins, Phillips registered seven sacks and 61 tackles in 2022. Though his sack numbers declined from the 8.5 he recorded as a rookie, Phillips became a more well-rounded defensive player.
PFF gave Phillips a 53.7 grade in 2021, but he soared past that number this season. Phillips received an 88.8 mark for his performance in 2022.
The Dolphins leaned on Phillips much more in 2022 as well. He started in 15 games compared to just five in 2021 and looks like a player that will wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks for years to come.
With Bradley Chubb on the opposite side of the defensive line, and Vic Fangio taking over as defensive coordinator, the sky is the limit for Phillips in 2023.
