Emerson Jr. is known for his physical attributes, including long limbs, which he uses effectively both in run and pass defense by getting his hands on receivers.

Emerson Jr. also has quick reads and reactions in run support, making him very effective on the outside as a contain defender. He excels as a zone player, using his vision and quick reactions to anticipate and react to offensive plays. Additionally, he displays fluid hips, allowing him to turn and change direction effectively.

When defending passes, Emerson Jr. has a good sense of the reception point and is able to use techniques such as swiping through hands and attacking the ball to make interceptions. He also keeps a cushion between himself and receivers and stays on top of routes downfield. Finally, he is a long strider who gets up to top speed quickly, making him a fast and agile cornerback.
