Updated look at the Seattle Seahawks' 2023 draft picks
The Seahawks are in excellent shape to build a winning roster that lasts for another decade
Boy, not many teams get to do what the Seattle Seahawks are doing, right now.
It's hard to think of any past team that made the playoffs, yet it possessed a top-5 pick in the subsequent NFL Draft.
That's something NFL dreams are made of.
Well, that's exactly what the Seahawks have done. They made the playoffs last year and, thanks to the infamous Russell Wilson trade, they are picking fifth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.
They're also picking 20th overall. Which is nuts.
It's easy to see why Pete Carroll and co. are in great shape. Especially when considering this year's crop of quarterbacks. The Seahawks can run it back with Geno Smith or they can take their next quarterback of the future, if they so desire.
Plus, they can do more. A whole lot more.
Let's take a look at the updated slate of Seahawks draft picks:
- Round 1, Pick 5 (from DEN)
- Round 1, Pick 20
- Round 2, Pick 37 (from DEN)
- Round 2, Pick 52
- Round 3, Pick 83
- Round 4, Pick 123
- Round 5, Pick 151 (from PITT)
- Round 5, Pick 154
- Round 6, Pick 198
- Round 7, Pick 237
Seattle is not expected to receive any compensatory picks, per Over The Cap.
Pick No. 37 is also from the Wilson trade. The Seahawks received a 2023 fifth-rounder after they traded cornerback Akhello Witherspoon to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Witherspoon was supposed to come in and compete for the starting left CB job, but instead found himself on a new team before the season started.
It's safe to say the Seahawks can continue to be one of the NFC's top competitors if this year's draft is as successful as the 2022 draft. That obviously remains to be seen, but right now, it's hard to see the 2023 NFL Draft going any other way but successful for the 'Hawks.
