CB Deonte Banks is the MOST UNDERRATED player in the 2023 NFL Draft: Film Breakdown
In this film breakdown, we take a look at Maryland CB Deonte Banks.
Banks had a breakout season in 2022, shooting his name up NFL draft boards and into teams' minds. He is an excellent man-coverage corner, who possesses great speed, athleticism, and strength. Similarly, he is a sure-handed tackler, only missing 1 tackle on the season. Here, we take a look at why he's shooting up teams' draft boards, and where I expect him to thrive in the NFL, as he will surely be taken in the 1st round in April.
Strengths:
Banks is a cornerback with an aggressive playing style, characterized by his physicality and a strong mindset. His athleticism sets him apart as a potential Day 2 player, with a rare combination of size, speed, and fluidity that is difficult to come by. Banks' lateral quickness is especially impressive, outclassing many other nickel corners.
Weaknesses
Although he possesses the physical attributes and strength to play press coverage, he still needs to hone his technique at the professional level. His tendency to become overly aggressive in press coverage can result in him falling behind with his footwork. As a result of his aggressive style, Banks is also prone to committing penalties for holding or interfering with receivers downfield. Additionally, his ability to recognize routes needs improvement, as he can sometimes become confused in coverage.
