Jahmyr Gibbs is a game-changing weapon in the backfield: NFL Draft Film Breakdown
In this film breakdown, we take a look at Alabama STUD RB Jahmyr Gibbs, a prospect who would be RB1 in almost any other draft class.
Gibbs finished his career at Alabama, after playing his first 2 seasons at Georgia Tech. Gibbs has elite acceleration and short area quickness, making him a home run threat every time he touches the ball. He is very hard to bring down, and despite not being a physical back, he breaks tons of tackles. Gibbs is also incredible out of the backfield. He only had 2 dropped passes in his entire career, and averaged over 10 yards per catch. Adding him to your offense raises the floor of the passing game, because your check down option is now a viable threat that needs to be accounted for. His play style mimics guys like McCaffrey and Kamara, two of the most productive backs in the NFL, when healthy.
Strengths:
- Speed and Agility – Gibbs is known for his quick feet and explosive acceleration, which allows him to make quick cuts and evade defenders.
- Vision and Instincts – Gibbs has excellent vision and instincts, which enable him to find gaps in the defense and make the right decisions on the field.
- Power and Balance – Despite his relatively small size, Gibbs has impressive power and balance, which allows him to break tackles and gain extra yards after contact.
- Receiving Ability – Gibbs is a versatile player who can catch passes out of the backfield and create big plays in the passing game.
Weaknesses:
- Pass Protection – Gibbs is still developing his pass protection skills, which can make him vulnerable to blitzing defenders and limit his playing time.
- Ball Security – Gibbs has had a few fumbles in his college career, which is an area of improvement for him.
- Durability – Gibbs has dealt with a few injuries during his college career, which could impact his ability to stay healthy and perform consistently at the next level.
