The Cincinnati Bengals know when and where they'll play their opponents in 2023 thanks to Thursday's NFL Schedule Release, and now they can begin their journey to hopefully making a third consecutive deep run in the playoffs.
Cincinnati will kick off their rookie minicamp on Friday, and one of their eight draft picks will have a smile on his face when walks into the building. Edge rusher Myles Murphy has agreed to terms with the Bengals on his rookie contract.
The Bengals had eight draft picks, and Murphy becomes the second of the bunch to get his deal done, joining fifth-round running back Chase Brown who signed on Tuesday.
Murphy was the first of a defensive revamping that came through Cincinnati in the first three rounds of the draft. The Bengals added speedy cornerback DJ Turner in the second round and then safety Jordan Battle in round three, signaling a completely new direction defensively for Cincinnati going forward.
Murphy finds himself in a lovely spot. Yes, he's a first-round pick and certainly a piece the Bengals can build on, but with Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard already on the roster, Murphy can get some veteran leadership without having to carry too big of a load at first while he simultaneously progresses gradually as a part of a rotation.
The Bengals needed to get another stud on their defensive line, and Murphy's speed and power once the ball is snapped and positional versatility makes him the perfect canvas to create a beautiful picture.
