The Pittsburgh Steelers' worst fear surrounding Cole Holcomb's injury has come to fruition.

Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Holcomb will have surgery and is out for the remainder of the year.

Get Back Soon Holcomb

One of the toughest injuries you will watch, the fact that Holcomb will be lost for an extended period of time due to friendly fire only makes matters worse.

If Holcomb wasn't the Steelers' best offseason free agent acquisition, he was a close second, holding down the fort in coverage, constantly finding his way around the football, and perhaps most importantly, leading the team and calling the defensive signals as the pillar of communication for the defense.

Luckily for Pittsburgh, they have another proven player in Kwon Alexander that will step in during Holcomb's absence, but even as good as he was in the Titans game, he doesn't have the ceiling that Cole does.

Holcomb just turned 27 over the summer, meaning he's fully fledged into his prime. Obviously, you never know how a player will come back from serious injuries, but hopefully, he's back and better than ever in the black and gold next season.
