Edge rusher day continues for us here AtoZ Detroit. We already covered Josh Allen, Danielle Hunter and Brian Burns. This time we'll be talking about Jets edge rusher Bryce Huff.
The Pros
Huff had a breakout season for the Jets in 2023. He had 10 sacks, 67 pressures and 12 quarterback hits. The biggest thing of note is that he did not start a single game for the Jets. He had all this production from off the bench. That is very impressive and it's possibly a sign of things to come for him. It's also a good sign that he won't cost as much as the first three guys did.
The Cons
There's always something to be leery about when it comes to signing the backup guy that had a big year in hopes that he can be your starter. Huff had a great season, but he's played 54 games for the Jets and they only let him start seven. 2023 was the most snaps he played in his career and it was still just 481. You have to worry that this was a fluke. That's all I'm saying.
How much would he cost?
Like I said, a lot cheaper. Our on staff cap specialists project that Huff would get a four year deal worth $58 million with an annual per year salary of $14.5 million and $17.5 million guaranteed.
Could it happen?
It absolutely could. The Jets defensive line is pretty stacked at the moment and I don't think they're going to mind if Huff goes out there and finds an opportunity to start somewhere. Someone will be looking to sign him in hopes that he can do just that. Will it be Lions? That is certainly very possible and I would keep an eye on Huff through this whole process.
