Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
As news of the selection broke, longtime NFL insider Albert Breer took to Twitter/X.com to take a shot at the former Vol quarterback.
"The Patriots draft 'Bazooka' Joe Milton. Guy can throw it a mile. Just not ever real sure where it's going," tweeted Breer.
The quips about Milton's arm are exhausting at this point. If you have never watched him play and you've only read tweets from guys like Breer, you'd think that Milton just launches the ball into the stands every play — or recklessly throws interceptions because he can't control where the ball is going.
And that just simply isn't the case. Not even close, actually. Milton completed 63 percent of his passes during his time at Tennessee. And he threw just five interceptions while playing for the Vols.
Were there times that Milton missed throws? Of course. There are plenty of throws I'm sure he'd love to have back. But there were also times — especially this past season — where Milton's stat line suffered because of drops by receivers.
Milton was off on some throws at Tennessee (and when I say off, we're not talking off by 15 feet, we're talking about throws that just missed) and he also made some tremendous plays.
It's just disappointing to see Breer essentially reduce the former Vol to a caricature on what is one of the biggest days of Milton's life. Not only is Breer's tweet the result of a gross exaggeration from the national media, it's just flat out unnecessary. An attempt to be funny resulted in a bad look for Breer.
