Week 8 was a special one for the Cleveland Browns with a big upset win over the Baltimore Ravens on their home field. Cleveland held off Baltimore for a 29-24 victory, but they appear to have taken a loss in another way.
Cleveland suffered unfortunate injuries to both cornerback Denzel Ward and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah in the hard-hitting AFC North battle.
In the third quarter of the game, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah took a blow to the head/neck area when tackling Ravens running back Derrick Henry. Owusu-Koramoah was immediately surrounded by the training staff and quickly loaded onto a backboard and cart.
According to the CBS broadcast, Owusu-Koramoah was taken to a local hospital with a neck injury. The good news is that he is said to have movement in all extremities.
Ward was ruled out after being evaluated for a concussion. The concussions continue to pile up for a player that is still in his prime. Ward has been having an All-Pro caliber season for the Browns as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. After the game, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Ward was diagnosed with his sixth career concussion and second this season.
Losing Owusu-Koramoah is a major blow to the Browns because he is one of the most important players for the defense. The do-it-all linebacker is the key piece in the middle of the defense that had seven tackles and a sack against Baltimore.
On the season, Owusu-Koramoah has 61 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble. After being named to his first Pro Bowl last year, it is fair to say JOK has looked like an All-Pro this season.
