NASHVILLE – When you finish 3-14, changes need to be made and Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk just made a big one.
The Titans are firing General Manager Ran Carthon, as sources told AtoZ Sports over the last 48 hours.
The team officially announced the decision from Strunk Tuesday morning.
Carthon was brought in as the successor to Jon Robinson in January of 2023. But over the last two seasons, Tennessee has bottomed out. The Titans finished in last place in the AFC South in both 2023 and 2024. Mike Vrabel was fired. Over $200 million was spent on free agents. And the Titans have only gotten worse.
There are a number of reasons to be optimistic about the Titans' future. JC Latham is a promising rookie left tackle. Early returns on T'Vondre Sweat and CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. are looking good. Tennessee is also set up nicely with the 1st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Many of these successes, however, can be attributed to President of Football Operations Chad Brinker.
The Titans restructured the front office last spring, promoting Brinker to President of Football Operations while adding "executive vice president" to Carthon's title of General Manger. Those moves unquestionably created a cloudy power structure for those both inside and outside the organization.
On the more concerning side of things, Carthon's firing continues the dangerous cycle of half-measures by Titans ownership. Robinson had to go so that Vrabel could have control. Then Vrabel was pushed out the door for not being on the same page as Carthon. Now Carthon is the odd man out while Brinker and Brian Callahan are expected to be a part of the Titans' 2025 plans.
