The second year of the Bo Nix era with the Denver Broncos has created plenty of buzz already.
Nix and the Broncos enjoyed an upstart first year of marriage together by posting a 10-win season and making an appearance in the playoffs in 2024 — achievements the Broncos had not seen since 2015. With Nix playing well within the confines of Sean Payton's offensive system, there's plenty of reason to believe 2024 can serve as the launch point for something even bigger in 2025.
Nix, to his credit, has gone above and beyond. The latest example tells the tale of a quarterback willing to go the extra mile(s) to get every edge he can.
Bo Nix linked up with Drew Brees this offseason for several days
Payton, with the Broncos back in training camp, revealed that his second-year quarterback had managed to link up with Payton's old quarterback from his time with the New Orleans Saints for several days this summer. The effort from Nix makes plenty of sense, as few quarterbacks had more success with a single coach than Brees did with Payton and the Saints from 2006 through 2020. Payton was Brees' only coach during his time with the Saints, meaning he has plenty of insight into the inner workings of Payton as a play-caller and a coach that could help Nix see things differently after his debut season.
It's a cool initiative to see a player take. Whether or not it bears fruit or not will only become clear after we see how much growth Nix has been able to apply into his game this season. The hope is obvious — that he's got a clear mastery of the foundations from last season and Denver, with some adjusted personnel at their disposal, can stack new layers on top with Nix to be a more diverse and dangerous unit as a result.
If that comes to be the reality we live in, Nix will deserve all the credit in the world. With an assist, of course, to Brees.
