There is trouble brewing in Texas with the Dallas Cowboys and defensive end Micah Parsons, which left former Philadelphia Eagles president Joe Banner refusing to bite his tongue on the situation.
Following a contract negation mishap, Parsons requested a trade on Friday afternoon, and Banner had something to say about it — just like everyone else.
After ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared a history of Jerry Jones trading away one Pro Bowler since 1989, Banner made an attempt to shut down the trade talk.
“Jerry is a short term thinker & planner when it comes to running his football team,” Banner said. “There is no history of anybody trading away a top-tier pro bowl player & getting better in the short term. That’s what your research also shows. There is a minuscule to 0 chance of a trade here.”
Just because Parsons isn’t thrilled with how Jerry handled his contract situation at the moment doesn’t mean it’s all over between the two parties just yet. Dallas would be out of their mind to let Parsons find a new home as opposed to giving him exactly what he wants.
Parsons didn’t blink jumping from the college to NFL level when he entered the league as a rookie in 2021, where he logged 84 total tackles, including 64 solo, three forced fumbles, and 12 sacks. Not only was he named Defensive Rookie of the Year, but he also earned his first Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro nod in Year 1.
He then racked up 65 total tackles, including 42 solo, 13.5 sacks, three passes defended, and three forced fumbles in Year 2. Once again, he earned Pro-Bowl and All-Pro honors. Fast forward to 2024, and Parsons has now earned four straight Pro Bowl nods and three All-Pro nods since he entered the league.
Parsons has paid his dues for a lofty long-term deal, and it’s hard to see Jerry not signing the kind of check that he not only wants, but deserves.
