If you were planning to skip the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason games, I don’t blame you. They’re not for everyone. But backup quarterback Joe Milton is doing his best to make sure you make the time.

Milton hasn’t been perfect in training camp but boy, has he flashed that arm that’s earned him the moniker “Bazooka Joe.” On Tuesday, he did so against the Los Angeles Rams during a joint practice by throwing a 65-yard bomb to wide receiver Jalen Brooks.

It’s just wild to continue to see how elite of an arm Milton is equipped with and how effortlessly he’s able to show it off. I can see why, earlier in the year, Tennessee Vols expert Craig Smith told me during a Q&A about the Cowboys quarterback: “I’ve been watching college football since the 1980s, and Milton might be the most physically talented QB I’ve ever watched play.”

Similarly to Trey Lance last year, now Milton needs to prove he can handle the details of the QB position. The accuracy. The touch. The consistency. So far, he has yet to prove that. But a full preseason could go a long way in giving the Cowboys a better idea of who he is as a QB.

So yeah, if I were you, I’d start cancelling those Saturday plans to sit down and enjoy the Joe Milton show this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. CT. Who knows how it will go, but I bet there will be some fun moments.

With Will Grier firmly set as the third-string quarterback and Dak Prescott unlikely to take a single preseason snap, expect the talented but raw quarterback to get the vast majority of snaps in August.
