Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton received a bit of a scare on Tuesday just shortly after receiving some positive news from the Dallas Cowboys.

Milton, who is entering his first season with Dallas after spending his rookie year with the New England Patriots, was listed as the Cowboys’ No. 2 quarterback on the team’s first unofficial depth chart.

Unfortunately for Milton, the former Vol exited practice early on Tuesday after hitting his thumb on a teammate’s helmet.

The good news for Milton is that he was able to make a few throws after suffering the injury.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer didn’t seem too concerned about Milton’s injury after practice. Milton, however, will undergo more testing just to be safe.

It sounds like there’s a good chance that Milton avoided a serious injury, though we’ll have to wait to see what the test results say to be sure.

The Cowboys will play their first preseason game on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Rams. We’ll see if Milton is on the field for Dallas — it’s certainly a big opportunity for the former Tennessee standout.
