Josh Allen wastes no time with bold statement about the current contract drama surrounding James Cook
The Buffalo Bills franchise QB has spoken.
The Buffalo Bills are dealing with a little bit of drama. Okay, they’re dealing with a huge heaping pile of drama, and it all surrounds their breakout RB James Cook.
James Cook holdout continues
Sean McDermott spoke to the media, indicating that he had hopes Cook would be out for practice this afternoon.
Instead, Cook’s holdout continues as the disgruntled star is looking to get paid and is digging his heels in. Cook did not arrive at camp, but that wasn’t the big news that broke regarding the talented RB.
Instead, it was none other than franchise QB, Joshua Patrick Allen, who gave his insight on the Cook contract drama in a way only he knows how. Allen didn’t hold back and spoke to the media about what his hopes are for the whole situation.
Allen, grounded in his response, once again reminded the league why he’s one of the very best on and off the field with his messaging.
In a video shared by Matt Parino from Syracuse.com. Allen was asked, “How do you weigh the (James) Cook situation? As a teammate and as a player?”
Josh Allen weighs in on James Cook contract drama
QB1 wasted no time, “Yeah, I mean. There’s no doubt that we all want him out there with us. I’ve got no say in what goes on behind closed doors. I’m a big advocate of everybody getting theirs and getting paid. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, that’s kind of where it’s at.”
Following up, reporters had asked, “How’s that impacted you during practice? Brandon said something to the effect, the other day, about how you and Sean are the two most impacted by it at practice. What’s that like?”
That’s when the superstar put everything into perspective, “Guys going out, it’s no different than Khalil being out with an ankle. Guys are stepping up and making plays. Good for Ray (Davis) to get some reps and get on the same page with Ty (Johnson) again, who is the best third-down back in the game. Just gives them more opportunities. “
Allen continued with a desperate message, “But, you know, James is who he is, and he’s one of the best running backs in the league, and it would be crazy to say we wouldn’t want him out there. We desperately want him out there for us, and hopefully, something can get done.”
Speaking on the brotherhood aspect for Cook and how Allen is stepping up, “At the end of the day, there’s this huge business piece to this game. It’s the hardest part. A lot of people don’t understand it. He’s holding out, he’s holding in, whatever he’s doing.”
Allen. giving the fanbase a more intimate look behind what’s going on, offered, “This is generational stuff; it’s wealth for you and your family. It’s not a small chunk of change, and making sure he’s healthy and still going through the mental reps. He’s still doing that; he’s a pro; he knows what he’s doing.”
What’s best for the Buffalo Bills’ offense is having Cook on the field, but if the price is just too high for the Bills to get near, we could see Cook holding out for even longer. Allen desperately wants him back on the field, and so do we.
